Hailed “Best of the Best 2007,” by Entrepreneur.com, Lisa Mercurio is the creative force behind the marketing and development of some of the most successful, arts and entertainment events to strike over the past two decades.
With more than twenty five years of entertainment business experience, she is credited with developing the media and multi-platform marketing strategies for a diverse array of projects and artists across varying genres. As Senior Vice President for Universal Classics Group, she developed the launch strategy behind multi-platinum recording artist Andrea Bocelli. Mercurio’s ability to identify, nurture and convert challenging marketing missions into winning strategies has led to notable international successes including “Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance,” the world-renowned “Three Tenors” concert (1991), Luciano Pavarotti’s “War Child,” project, Philip Glass’ Point Music series and, the development of the best-selling lifestyle CD series “Set Your Life to Music.” Lisa Mercurio has broadened the commercial appeal of the arts to include mainstream audiences.
Mercurio co-founded the venture, Smash Arts in 2000. The unique, New York-based company focuses on the development, launch and marketing of arts and entertainment properties, advocacy and legacy-based projects. In 2019 she created the online music business teaching course for GenConnectU, “The Music Doctor is In.” Clients have included foundations, Warner Bros., Interscope Records, BMG/RCA Victor, Sony Wonder, sports figures and a wide array of independent artists and business professionals.
Mercurio co-created and launched the music/sleep brand, “Bedtime Beats® – The Secret to Sleep®,” in 2006. The brand is distributed by Warner Music/Rhino Entertainment. The creators appeared on CNN Headline News leading the product to a #1 debut on Amazon’s Movers & Shakers chart overnight. “Bedtime Beats® – The Secret to Sleep®” has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Allure, Health, More Magazine and Family Circle amongst others. The project is the winner of Daily Candy’s 2007 “Sweetest Sound,” award. The patented “Bedtime Beats” sleep solution music is embedded in Timex alarm clocks and iHomes.
In 2011, Mercurio co-created the lifestyle site BedtimeNetwork.com as an extension of her work in the sleep arena. Based on the concept that the secret to a good night’s sleep lies in what you do at bedtime, Bedtime Network.com was the internet’s first online brand and destination for all things bedtime and sleep-related. For television and film, Mercurio executive produced the album and oversaw the extension of the Academy Award nominated documentary short, “Two Hands,” marking the historic return to the concert stage of pianist, Leon Fleisher. Other television production credits include Secret Garden’s “A Night with Secret Garden,” “Celtic Harpestry – Live from Lismore Castle,” and for Interscope Records, “Only You – Alessandro Safina in Concert.” Mercurio served as a member of the Advisory Council for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
An award-winning activist, Mercurio is a founding member of the East River Fifties Alliance, a New York City-based civics group dedicated to contextual development. She is a board member of the Foundation for Gender Equality.
Lisa Mercurio is a graduate of the Oberlin College and Conservatory and has attended the London Business School (Executive program.) An accomplished pianist, writer, and marathon runner, she is the mother of grown twins dividing her time between New York City and Connecticut with her husband, Maestro Steven Mercurio and standard poodle “Minnie La Fanciulla.”
